In my opinion Indian society has double standards, I have observed this since my childhood and nothing has changed much till now.
At home I was told that I should be proud of our culture and past achievements, My Grani told me about the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' from Upanishad(Sanskrit word which means the whole earth is one big family and Only small men discriminate), but while searching a bride for my uncle, she was so particular about the caste!
If a person considers the whole earth as one family what is the need for being particular about caste?
Even today the situation has not changed much in India and they all are still living monotonous life, mixing with different people makes life very interesting(If there is no love it doesn't matter whom do you marry, you are in a deep shit)
My Aunt fasts sometimes (food will be ready to eat later and I still dono how it pleases god!) so that her husband lives longer, she also prays for his happiness, but my aunt doesn't allow his husband to drink occasionally and she does all sorts of emotional black mails and calls it as love (It is not that he will behave rudely after drinking, I sense selfishness in it, what will she do if something happens to my uncle? she is dependent on him) I think she doesn't know that love is beyond selfishness, but why she has to worry? let him party occasionally, Anyhow, she is fasting for his health and if he can be happy by partying what is the need to fast or pray?
Not just my aunt, so many people are doing like this(I'm not a male chauvinist, just said what I felt)
One day my friend's father was telling that our Indian society is the only place where women is treated as goddess and she is given more respect, he also said that he follows that and his daughter is like a goddess. Few days later her daughter went home late in the night and her cellphone was not working so she couldn't inform, she was late by 2 hrs and you know what was the first question he asked? Why are you late? What do you think of yourself? with which guy you had been and what were you doing till now?(Offensive way)
These are the questions almost every typical Indian father asks her daughter if she goes home late without informing? Sometimes they may not tell directly to her daughter but still they doubt.
At first why don't they get any other thought? well, Is that the way to show respect?
Dirty mind!!!
I understand that Indian society is sexually repressed, but don't spoil young people and make society more repressive, allow love to blossom.
Why can't you demand govt to legalize prostitution?
You can find many similar incidents, people are not aware, they say something and their actions don't justify what they say. Broad country filled with narrow minded people, Wake up!! you cannot live life by cherishing the glory of the past.
Alvin Toffler is right! "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn"
